Five KPIs worth tracking
A short list that is read every week beats a long dashboard nobody opens:
- On-time delivery: the share of milestones or tasks finished by their due date.
- Budget variance: hours or cost used compared with the budget at this point in the project.
- Scope change: work added after kickoff, as a share of the original plan.
- Rework: how often finished work is reopened.
- Utilisation: the share of the team's time spent on billable work.
Leading versus lagging indicators
Most KPIs are lagging: they confirm a problem after it has cost something. Leading indicators move first, such as work nobody has touched for days, items waiting on a blocker, or reviews that have stalled. Tracking both tells you what happened and what is about to.
In Worksynk
Worksynk's team, time, work, financial and executive reports cover the lagging measures, and each total can be opened to show the rows behind it. The delivery confidence score is the leading one, computed daily from overdue, blocked and stalled work.
