What Is a Project Health Score?

A project health score is a single number or status (often green, amber or red) that summarises whether a project is on track. Good health scores are computed from the project's own data, such as overdue work, blockers and stalled reviews, rather than set by hand, and they show which issues caused the current value.

Manual versus computed health

Many teams set project health by hand in a weekly status update. That is quick, but it reflects whoever wrote the update and tends to stay green until a deadline is missed.

A computed score reads the work itself every day. It cannot be optimistic on anyone's behalf, and when it moves it can point at the exact items responsible.

What a useful score measures

The signals that most often precede a missed deadline are simple to detect:

  • Work past its due date.
  • Work waiting on another open item.
  • Work nobody has touched for several days.
  • High-priority work with no owner.
  • Reviews that have been waiting too long.

How Worksynk does it

Worksynk computes a delivery confidence score for every project from exactly these signals, captures it daily, and lists the work items behind every drop.

[ FAQ ]

Common questions.

What is the difference between project health and project status?

Status is usually a label someone sets by hand. Health, done well, is computed from the work itself and explains its value.

How often should project health be measured?

Daily works well. It is frequent enough to catch problems early and turns the score into a trend you can read.
